(Fresno, California)--California Youth Outreach (CYO)
has been selected to receive the National Gang Crime
Research Center’s Thrasher Award, recognition
bestowed on exemplary gang prevention/intervention
programs, initiatives, and agencies in the United
States and abroad. CYO is one of two agencies receiving
the award at the 2006 National Gang Crime Research
Center’s 9th International Gang Specialist Training
Conference on August 7th at the Westin Michigan Avenue
Hotel in Chicago. CYO’s Executive Director,
Anthony Ortiz, will accept the award on behalf of
the agency and it’s Proud Parenting Program,
which was designated as an exemplary program with
proven effectiveness, and adaptable to other communities
for replication. CYO conducts the program in Fresno,
California, one of the cities where it provides gang
intervention and prevention services. News

OUSD Alternative Schools and California Youth Outreach Help Youth Leave Gang Life
The Measure Y Gang Intervention program operated by California Youth Outreach (CYO) at OUSD Alternative Schools is making progress assisting youth with a way out of gang life. Last year, a student named "Juan" was affiliated with Norteņos and deeply involved in a drug lifestyle when a California Youth Outreach Youth Intervention Specialist (YIS) began working with him. East Oakland Apartments Begin to Revive
A few months ago in East Oakland, Problem Solving Officer Jack Doolittle started cleaning up a bungalow apartment complex that was a haven for local drug dealers. The property is close by Castlemont High School and became a prime location for the buying and selling of Marijuana and Ecstasy. Read more about this project.
